Overview

What Is International Rail Freight?

Cargo is loaded onto dedicated freight trains at international rail freight stations (Yen Vien, Song Than, Dong Dang) to cross into China, then continues onto the trans-Asia–Europe rail network via 2 main methods:

Wingo Logistics cargo container at an international rail freight station

Full Container Load (FCL)

Ideal for large-scale export shipments (20ft / 40ft / 45ft HQ). The container is customs-sealed at the warehouse and stays sealed for the entire route.

Less than Container Load (LCL)

The optimal solution for small and medium shipments. Wingo consolidates cargo from multiple shippers into a single container to share costs, charged by weight/volume.

International Rail Stations Wingo Operates From:
Yen Vien Station (Hanoi) Dong Dang Station (Lang Son) Song Than Station (Binh Duong/HCMC) Kep Station (Bac Giang)

Advantages

Why Do Businesses Choose Rail Freight?

Reasonable Cost

Rates are significantly lower than air freight, making rail especially cost-effective for heavy cargo and machinery on long Asia–Europe routes.

Reliable Schedule

Trains run on fixed timetables, unaffected by storms or international port congestion.

Safe & Secure

Containers stay customs-sealed for the entire journey, minimizing handling and eliminating the risk of damage or loss.

Good to know

Things to Know Before Shipping by Rail

  • Check the list of goods permitted under the SMGS transit agreement (hazardous and flammable/explosive goods are strictly restricted).
  • Pack goods securely and strap pallets so they can withstand the inertial force of shunting when switching rail lines.
  • Accurately declare the HS code, cargo type, and value on your import/export documentation.
  • Allow extra time for customs clearance at border stations during peak periods.
